Who am I?
I'm Visakh Unni, a senior research engineer who has primarily worked in the fields of data science, data engineering and internal developer platforms. This is a brief account of my journey into software engineering and the remarkable individuals I've collaborated with along the way.
After graduating in Computer science and Engineering, in the initial days of my career, I worked with a number of startups in the digital marketing segment. There, alongside my colleagues, we developed an automation platform for mass notification delivery, achieving over 2 billion notifications in its first year. Our work in customer analytics during this period paved my way into analytics and data science.
My next venture was with EY, where a colleague and I established the inaugural data science team within the GDS unit, expanding it to 12 members in a few years. This role provided me with opportunities to tackle projects across various industries, including auditing, F&B, energy & utilities, and the automotive sector.
Subsequently, I transitioned to Vimana (System Insights), a company focused on manufacturing analytics. This phase marked a significant turning point in my career, thanks to the mentorship I received. Here, I honed my skills in agile development, clean coding, and designing scalable data processing systems, capable of managing over 20 billion events on their busiest days.
Following Vimana's acquisition by HBK (Spectris), I continued my journey as a senior research engineer, now working on analyzing sensor data across a wide range of products. Currently, I am part of a platform team that develops internal developer tools aimed at enhancing software quality and promoting best practices in software engineering across the organization.
